How to Choose the Right Barcode Format?
Barcodes are essential for tracking products, managing inventory, and speeding up point-of-sale checkouts. Choosing the right format depends on your industry and use case.
- CODE128: The most versatile and widely used barcode format in shipping, logistics, and internal tracking. It supports both numbers and letters (alphanumeric) and can encode highly dense data.
- EAN-13: The standard retail barcode used globally (except mainly in the US/Canada). It requires exactly 12 or 13 digits. If you're selling consumer goods internationally, this is the format you need.
- UPC-A: The standard retail barcode for the United States and Canada. It strictly requires 11 or 12 numeric digits. Used on almost all products scanned at retail checkouts in North America.
Scannability Tip:Always ensure there is high contrast between the barcode lines and the background. Dark lines on a solid white background (like our forced export settings) guarantee 100% scanning accuracy with laser scanners.
